Guided bicycle tour through Stellenbosch

Activity Description

This tour combines the beautiful scenery and sites of Historic Stellenbosch with excellent wine pairings and some healthy outdoor exercise.

The tour starts 9:00 at the Adventureshop office. Each rider will collect a bike and helmet to suit their size. E-Bikes also available. We will carry a snack pack for each rider and the guide will have space in the backpack for those who would like to buy wine en-route.
The tour starts with a historic tour of Stellenbosch, visiting some of the historic sites in town. We will cycle through Stellenbosch and head to the scenic Jonkershoek valley. A winding road through oak and poplar forests will take you to a wine estate nestled in the valley bottom, here you can take in the stunning views while doing wine tasting of award winning wines on an island in a lake.
On the way out of the valley, you will stop at another wine estate which sports beautiful grounds and historic Cape Dutch architecture. Here we will do a cellar tour before we start our Chocolate and Wine pairing that will make your taste buds tingle.

After the tasting we will head back into Stellenbosch Town via the Stellenbosch University before ending the tour again at our office

There are some variations to the route, with varying levels of difficulty so the tour can be tailored to suit your cycling ability. Family tours can also be booked.
NEW: Option to do the tour on an E- bike at an additional cost of R200 per bike

Children under 5 years are free (cycle in baby seat with parents). Children who cycle on their own, full rate. Children will do Chocolate and Ice tea tasting.

Customer Reviews

An excellent experience in every way. Efficient administration and information. Excellent e bikes and very clear instructions on their use. The itinerary was varied and interesting and the information given by the guide was fascinating. The guide, Tayne, was superb. Altogether a 10 out of 10 experience. John and Tineke Regan - John Regan

Very pleasant sightseeing / wine tasting cycle tour with a brilliant guide. - Jens von Delft

Very knowledgeable guide. Distance was just right, not too long, not too short. Lovely stops at Lanzerac and Postcard Cafe. Well organised. Very nice bikes. Timing perfect. - Pierre Fourie

My wife and I did the Guided mountain bike tour through Stellenbosch, which included a wine tasting at two wineries, the second one with wine-matched chocolates. We booked online about a week beforehand, after we'd arrived in South Africa and that was very efficient with various disclaimers, queries on our height, fitness and experience level. That meant we were expected on arrival, the waiting bikes were appropriately sized and the tour was a route we were comfortable with. For anyone unfamiliar, there was an explanation of gears, hydrolic brakes and safety - helmets supplied. We were in a group of six, so not too large and the guide was good with plenty of interesting stops en-route. Both wineries were beautiful and the wine tasting with chocolates (or chocolate tasting with wine?) excellent. Stellenbosh is well worth a visit and we spent a happy few hours walking around after the ride before heading off for dinner. Recommended. - Robin Gaddum

We enjoyed the biking tour a lot, in particular the wine and chocolate pairing. Our guide gave good information about the history of Stellenbosch throughout the tour. - Maren Hoefler
